Important Session Information

This session covers a wide range of topics including:

• The extent of the problem – who the offenders are and why they molest children.
• Common seduction, manipulation and “grooming” tactics used by offenders.
• Talking to children about abuse and people with “secret touching problems.”
• Practical child and family “rule” for safety.
• Responding to sex-abuse disclosures and reporting child abuse.

This training will include video clip interviews of child molesters and victims sharing their stories.

While the State of Indiana requires that all staff receive training in child abuse and neglect (per IC 20-28-3-4.5), South Harrison understands that these topics may be emotionally upsetting to many. To this end, we have coordinated with the International Fellowship of Chaplains to provide attendees with someone with whom they may choose to speak at any time during the session. A chaplain will check on anyone leaving the session at any time. Attendees are not required to speak to a chaplain; they are simply there in a supporting capacity and are trained to provide a listening ear.
