Centre

Study can be a bit of a daunting prospect for lots of students. Luckily there are loads of websites and other resources out there that contain videos, past papers, walk through questions and revision notes to help guide you. This list is only a few of the many that are out there. I encourage you to have a look through and find the one that works best for you!

English

  • NZQA - Past papers and exemplars

  • Learncoach : NCEA level 1, walkthrough video tutorials on essay writing.

  • Spark Notes : Notes, written and visual text analysis and quotes chapter by chapter for a variety of texts.

  • Study Notes - Not a New Zealand website but if you click on the leaving cert button you will find useful sample essays and crash course videos on a variety of common books.

  • BBC Bitesize - Not a New Zealand website but contains tons of good resources (plot summaries, themes, character analysis) for hundreds of specific texts as well as more general 'how to analyse a text' resources.

  • Shmoop - Literally hundreds and hundreds of books on here, notes, plot summaries and analysis for all of them.

  • John Green Crash Course - Crash courses on a variety of books and movies - a good place to start your revision.

  • Education Perfect - Practise essay writing skills and unfamiliar text questions.

  • Cliff Notes - Study guides for a variety of texts.

  • Lit Charts - Character analysis, plot summaries, theme analysis and useful quotes for hundreds of famous texts.

  • Thug Notes - Funny crash course videos on a variety of well known texts - a good place to start your revision.

  • AME workbooks - Levels 1, 2 and 3. Contain notes, example essays and step by step guides to answering essay questions and unfamiliar text. Can be bought online or from a variety of shops in town (Whitcoulls, University Bookshop etc).


Sciences

  • NZQA - Past papers and exemplars

  • Learncoach : NCEA levels 1, 2 and 3. Chemistry, Biology and Physics. Walkthrough video tutorials and practise questions.

  • Education Perfect - Walk through video guides and practise questions.

  • Study Notes - NCEA levels 2 and 3 Biology, Chemistry and Physics . Not a New Zealand website but if you click on the leaving cert button you will find a variety of useful walk through videos and notes.

  • BBC Bitesize - NCEA levels 1, 2 and 3. Not a New Zealand Website but contains tons of good resources (questions, walk through videos and model answers) for all 3 sciences.

  • Khan Academy : NCEA levels 1, 2 and 3. Walkthrough video guides and practise questions.

  • Study Time : NCEA levels 1 , 2 and 3. No level 3 Physics. Study notes, walkthrough study guides and revision techniques.

  • No Brain too Small : All years, notes, practice questions and revision material.

  • John Green Crash Course - NCEA levels 1, 2 and 3. Crash courses on a variety of scientific concepts.

  • Science Class Online - NCEA levels 1, 2 and 3. Database of notes and resources for all senior sciences.

  • Best Choice - NCEA levels 2 and 3 Chemistry. Not the most visually appealing site but contains lots of good practise questions and notes.

  • Study Pass - NCEA levels 1 and 2. Handy checklist to track your revision process, you may like to consider buying the revision workbooklets as well (not available for all level 3 sciences and level 2 Biology).

  • AME workbooks - NCEA levels 1, 2 and 3. Contain notes, past exam questions and model answers. Can be bought online or from a variety of shops in town (Whitcoulls, University Bookshop etc).

  • SciPad Revision Books - NCEA levels 1 and 2. Revision books containing past exam questions with model answers as well as parallel papers.

Mathematics and Statistics

  • NZQA - Past papers and exemplars

  • Learncoach : NCEA levels 1, 2 and 3. Pure Maths, Calculus and Statistics. Walkthrough video tutorials and practise questions.

  • Study Time : NCEA levels 1 and 3. Only level 3 statistics - no calculus. Study notes, walkthrough study guides and revision techniques.

  • Study Pass - All level 1 maths and level 3 calculus students will already have the workbooklet that goes with this website. Other students may like to use it as a handy checklist for tracking revision progress or consider buying the revision workbooklets yourself.
