August-13-2021
Route Taken: Day 4
Rode to Rameswaram – the monument in memory of Abdul Kalam and famous Pamban bridge on the way. Perhaps, the first public display of the Padma Vibhushan Dr. E.M. Sreedharan was through the repair of the Pamban bridge blown off by cyclonic winds. In spite of COVID-19 restrictions there were a few guests. Just about 18 kilometres from the famous Dhanushkoti tip, we were prevented by the police on the basis of COVID-19 restrictions. On reaching INS Parundu, Captain Menon was upset that we didn’t ask for his help. He called up the ASP and obtained the necessary clearance. Though not really keen to retrace the whole of more than 120 kilometres, finally we did. And felt that the effort was worth the while. Around 20 kilometres ride with seas on both sides of the road! Saw the ghost town of Dhanushkoti, destroyed in the storms of 1964.
