Expectations for co-curricular and extracurricular activities
The school’s mission and honor code apply when students are in before-school care or in after-school activities including, but not limited to, clubs, athletics, and Club Eagle. Although some expectations at these times may differ from those during the school day, they will be made clear and supervisors will enforce them and report both meritorious and challenging behaviors to administration. Consequences may be given at school for misbehavior occurring during co-curricular and extracurricular activities.
Conduct Points
Students begin each week with a conduct grade of 100. Deductions are taken when students fail to follow the guidelines for behavior. These deductions will result in the loss of points in increments of 5 (up to 30) based on the level of misconduct, frequency of misbehavior, and/or the discretion of the teacher and administration. If a student receives a 70% or below for a given week, he/she will be assigned detention of 2-5 days, based on the level of misconduct, frequency of misbehavior, and/or the discretion of administration. Detentions will be held during middle school lunch and recess.
Detention
Detention- If a student receives a 70% or below in conduct during any given week, he/she will earn lunch/recess detention and will not be permitted to participate in SHCS extracurricular activities (including sports, music/drama performances, out of school competitions, etc.) nor any in-school special activities such as out of uniform, pep rallies, assemblies, etc. during the detention period.
Members of Student Council and/or NJHS who receive detention will be placed on probation. Additional detentions/suspensions will result in removal from participation in these groups.
