Mathematics Big Ideas

Sample tasks have been curated from various open source resources to support teachers' use of tasks to teach a Big Idea at their grade level. The Tasks Spreadsheet is sorted by grade level tabs, TK through High School. Each grade level includes the Content Connections, Big Ideas, and Standards table from the California Digital Learning Integration and Standards Guidance. High school courses include one task connected to each big idea. K-8 includes three sample tasks. These represent a range.

  • Example Task 1: quicker to implement

  • Example Task 2: more time, or look different from teaching standards discreetly

  • Example Task 3: tasks that might spark deeper conversation
