How are children selected for the Title 1 program?
A student must score below benchmark to be considered eligible for the Title 1 program. Students are assessed in the beginning, middle, and end of the year in reading and math. Assessments will determine eligibility throughout the year.
How do parents know if their child is making progress in reading and mathematics?
Because the Title 1 program is closely aligned with classroom instruction, classroom teachers provide information about each child’s overall progress. Title 1 teachers send home reports after every progress monitoring. In addition, report cards are completed by Title 1 teachers and distributed two times a year: mid year and at the end of the year. Parent/teacher conferences are held in November to share information about the progress and needs of each student. During these conferences, parents may discuss the Title 1 program of support, and parents are encouraged to contact their child’s teacher at any time for information about their child’s program.
If my child receives Title 1 services will my child miss any core instruction with the classroom teacher ?
Title 1 services are provided during independent practice and/or WIN Time (What I Need).
What does research tell us about Parent Involvement?
Research shows that how well students do in school depends a great deal upon how much their parents get involved in their education. You can become more involved by:
Joining our local school/parent organization
Serving on the Title I Parent Advisory Committee
Supporting school extra-curricular activities
Volunteering at the school
Attending parent-teacher conferences and Title I parent meetings
Communicating with your student's teacher regularly by writing notes, telephoning the school, etc.
Monitoring your child's progress and grades on Powerschool
Keeping your student's teacher(s) informed about events in his or her life that may affect his/her performance at school
