Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools (such as Gemini, ChatGPT and similar generative AI platforms) are becoming common learning tools. At Sharon Springs Central School District, AI can support learning when used responsibly. However, AI should never replace student effort, creativity, or honesty.
Students are expected to use AI in ways that support learning and maintain academic integrity; in order to do this, communication and approval from teachers is key to using AI at Sharon Springs CSD.
At Sharon Springs Central School, we believe learning requires effort, honesty, and reflection. AI can be used as a tool to support learning, not replace it; in order to use it in this way students maybe guided by their teachers with explicit instruction and specific parameters.
Students may only use AI for class assignments with explicit, written direction by the teacher. Any AI generated content must be cited as a source as directed by the teacher or it will be considered plagiarism (thus subject to the rules/consequences pertaining to plagiarism).
