Music Faculty

Music has always been an important part of my life. It has provided me with an emotional outlet in times of great joy, sorrow, challenge, and peace. I hope to instill the passion and skills in my students that they need for music to provide them what it has always provided for me.  

I live what I teach. I have been a violinist and performer for various events for over 35 years including musicals, weddings, funerals, and formal orchestra and chamber music concerts. 

I have a B.S. in Music Education from RI College and a M.M. in Music Education from Kent State University. I strive to continue learning through professional development activities that allow me to expand my own skills in performing and teaching music of all genres and for all people. 

I have experience working with students and adults of all ages (my oldest student was in her 80's) and have taught general music and strings in RI and MA public schools as well as private lessons on piano and violin.

As a choir director and music teacher, my chief aim is to instill a lifelong love of learning in my students through student empowerment, mutual empathy, and community engagement.

I received my B.S. in Music Education at Western CT State University and my M.M. in Music Education at Kent State University. As a lifelong learner, I attend annual music education conferences, read the latest in music education journals, and take supplemental classes and workshops when available including The Guitar Teachers Workshop and the AP Summer Institute course. 

I have experience teaching elementary, middle, and high school choral and instrumental ensembles, K-12 general music and AP music theory, theatre arts classes, and adapted general and choral music for special education programs.

My name is Tim MacDonald and I am the Band Director at Sharon High School. Prior to this appointment in the Sharon Public Schools, I taught for 10 years in the Bellingham Public Schools as the elementary/middle school band director and as a general music teacher. I also taught in the Marlborough Public Schools and Norwood Public Schools during the first 3 years of my career.  I'm originally from Norwood MA and graduated from Norwood High School in 2009. I earned my undergraduate degree in Music Education from the University of New Hampshire in 2013 and later achieved my Masters Degree in Music Education from the American Band College of Central Washington University in 2018. During that time, my conducting professors and mentor teachers included Dr. Andrew Boysen Jr., Jay Gephart, Paul Crider, Anthony Maiello, and Charles Peltz. 

I love teaching and playing music. Outside of school, I am a freelance professional trumpet player and have performed as a soloist for local churches as well as in various concert bands, marching bands, symphony orchestras, pit orchestras, brass ensembles, and jazz ensembles all over New England. My trumpet teachers were Dr. Chris O'Hara, Ron Christianson, Dr. Robert Stibler, Trent Austin, and Phyllis Stork. 

I am a member of the following professional music education organizations: the Massachusetts Association for Music Education (MMEA) and the National Association for Music Education (NAfME). I am also a member of the following teaching unions: the Sharon Teachers Association (STA), the Norfolk County Teachers Association (NCTA), the Massachusetts Teachers Association (MTA), and the National Educators Association (NEA). 

Lastly, I am happily married to my wife Courtney and we have two beautiful children Henry and Hannah. We reside in Plainville, MA. I look forward to working with your students this year to make some amazing music! See you at our concerts!
