Music Electives

Music through Time

In 6th grade, students will learn how the music world developed over time. Topics covered will include music from the Baroque, Classical, and Romantic Eras.  Next students will learn about the importance of Tin Pan Alley, Jazz, Rock and Motown. Finally, students will dive into modern music such as rap, hip hop, and pop. Students will have this class for a half trimester, about 30 days. 

A Glimpse of Music Electives

In 7th grade, students will experience a taste of all three electives that are offered in 8th grade. Students will experience about 10 days in each elective. The elective topics are Piano/Ukulele, Musical Theatre, and Music Technology . See 8th grade for descriptions of each elective.  Students will have this class for a half trimester, about 30 days. 

Music Electives

In 8th grade, students can  choose from one of the below music electives. Students will have the elective class for an entire trimester. (~60 days)

Piano/Ukulele/Guitar - Students will learn the beginning basics for each of these instruments. This is a self-paced class. Students will also learn techniques that they can use outside of class. 

Musical Theatre - In this class students will be creating their own musical show. Students will write, cast, practice, produce, market, and perform their own show. 

Music Technology - Students will get a glimpse of music production and how to create tracks. Students will use a music writing software to create and produce music tracks.
