Parents & Community

Welcome parents and community members!

Our school library serves over 500 students and 50+ teachers in our school community. We provide access to many resources, including print books, ebooks, magazines, online databases for research, and paid-subscription websites.  View the full list of what we offer here.

Our library program is guided by the AASL National School Library Standards and the Pennsylvania Library Model Curriculum.  During the school year, your child will visit the library at least once per cycle.  In library class, students will learn how to conduct research, become better readers, and pursue their interests through different learning activities.  The library is also open to all students every morning from 8:30-8:50 am. Books can returned to the books collection bin outside the library doors at any time.

Check Out Times

Books, Audiobooks, and Maker Kits - 24 school days

Ebooks - 7 calendar days

Library Policies

Students are responsible for taking care of the items they check out from the library and returning them on time.

Students may check out up to 5 physical items at a time, including print books, audiobooks, and/or maker kits.

Students may check out up to 4 digital items at a time through the MackinVIA ebooks platform. Digital items include ebooks and online audiobooks.

All physical items are checked out for 24 school days. After that time, items need to be returned or renewed.

Ebooks and online audiobooks are automatically returned.  Students cannot renew them in MackinVIA, but they may check them out again if they are not on hold for someone else.

If an item is overdue, there are no late fines or fees.  However, if an item is more than 60 days overdue, we will assume the item is lost and charge a replacement fee. A bill will be sent home to the student's family at the address on file with the school district.

If a print book is damaged, please do not try to fix it yourself.  The teacher-librarian has special repair supplies to fix ripped pages, missing labels, and sometimes broken book spines.  If we can fix it, there is no charge for the damage. If a book cannot be repaired, then it must be replaced.

Note for Parents: We appreciate parents' support as students learn to take care of their library items, and we encourage students to keep their library items in one safe place at home (away from pets, water bottles, and younger siblings).

Also, lost and damaged items can be replaced with the same item in new condition.  For example, if a hardcover book is lost or damaged, then a new hardcover book can be purchased online or from a local bookstore instead of paying the replacement fee.

Donations

Our school library is happy to accept donations that meet the curriculum needs of our school or that replace broken or damaged books. Many books were lost during the COVID-19 pandemic, and there are no funds to replace them.

If you wish to make a donation, you can purchase a book from this BookShop.org list.  Your purchase helps to support local, independent bookstores, and donated books from this list will be added to the Spring Ridge Elementary Library collection for students to read and enjoy!

Looking for another way to help your school community? Volunteer in the the library!

We always need a helping hand to put away books in alphabetical order, or to get new books processed and ready to check out. No prior training or experience is needed. Contact the teacher-librarian to join our friendly, respectful team!

All volunteers must get their clearances, and hand them in to the school office:

Teachers and Staff

All teachers and staff members may check out an unlimited number of physical items for classroom instruction.

Once a quarter, the library will send a printed reminder of what teachers currently have checked out to make sure items are returned in a timely manner.  Please return items you are finished using so that others may enjoy and use them as well.
