Title I is a federally funded literacy program that provides reading assistance to children needing extra help in reading. Instruction is delivered by the reading specialists. Children are instructed either in small groups or 1:1 instruction. Guided reading, skill and strategy work, fluent rereading, word work, and writing are done in these groups.
Children in grades K- 3 are selected to be in the Title I reading program based upon objective criteria that varies by grade level. Other assessments may also be administered dependent upon what strengths or weaknesses the child may display. The results of these tests are combined with teacher observation.
