Getting Charged Up in 2nd Grade!

During this unit, students are introduced to the basic concepts of electrical circuits. Students self-direct their individual learning about electricity as they travel through centers. The knowledge that they acquire at these centers gives them basic foundational skills about circuits, electrical flow, conductors, and insulators. Upon the completion of this unit, students have initial understandings about how electricity works and why electricity is important in our daily lives.

Unit Expectations

Students should understand:

Electrical circuits are a flow of electricity with a current
Electrical circuits are used in their daily life to power devices/machines
The Engineering and Design Process consists of multiple stages/steps to create a product to accomplish a task

Students should be skilled at:

Explaining and demonstrating how electrical circuits are made and work
Creating an item that uses an electrical circuit to complete a task
Creating a product that uses electricity through a series circuit
