Hello! My name is Mr. Matthew Derr. This is my 20th year of teaching, so I am very anxious and happy to work with all of the students. I am currently the Discovery teacher and Instructional Coach at Whitfield Elementary. I was a Third Grade teacher for six years, and I was a First Grade teacher for five years all at Whitfield.
I graduated in May 2004, from Shippensburg University with a B.S. in Elementary Education. I have two teaching certificates. My first certificate is in Elementary Education (teaching grades K-6), and the second certificate is in Environmental Education (which allows me to teach that subject from K to 12). I also have my Master's of Education in Instructional Technology with an Emphasis in a Digital Classroom, and my Instructional Technology Specialist certification, from Kutztown University. I have continued my education at the BCIU and Wilkes University in digital tools and instructional technology.
On April 7, 2006 I became engaged! The wedding date was June 30, 2007. Thank you to the classes of 2005-2006 and 2006-2007 for a memorable experience!
As mentioned on June 30, 2007, I was married to my beautiful wife Christine. We had a wonderful day and thank you to the family, friends, and students that shared in that special day with us. IT WAS GREAT!
On November 2, 2010 Mrs. Derr and I welcomed Evan Matthew Derr into the world. Then on September 14, 2012 we welcomed Isaac Matthew Derr into the world. We are both very excited and happy to have our two boys in our lives. Thank you to everyone for your support, and advice!
We currently reside locally in the Whtifield area. It is wonderful to be part of such a wonderful community.
I am also a Governor Mifflin alumni (class of 2000).
But I am proud to say that I am a Bulldog!
