Dear Parents and Families,
Thank you for all your thoughtful donations and Teacher Appreciation gifts! We are truly grateful!
We are currently wrapping up our first Unit of Inquiry. The students just started working on their summatives, which should be completed this week. All students have to choose a problem they notice in the community, and then devise a plan of action to help solve the problem. Students will be researching to gain more understanding about the problem they choose. Ultimately, the goal is for the students be thinkers about how they can make a positive difference in their community, which directly ties into our central idea for this unit.
This month we are also beginning our second Unit of Inquiry, How We Organize Ourselves: Show Me the Money. The central idea is: Implementing an organized system influences economic choices. Students will be learning about money and math, systems of trade, and budgeting. We are focusing on the currency of North America. In math, we are continuing concepts and strategies of multiplication facts, and we will be introducing adding and subtracting with decimals. It is imperative that students are fluent in their multiplication facts (1-12), as this is the foundation to everything we do in math for the rest of the school year.
As a reminder, we do have our guest speaker, attorney Dan Freyberg, on Thursday, October 8th. He will be teaching a Justice lesson, which includes discussing how the court system works, The Constitution, and the Bill of Rights. It is a very nice way to wrap up our first unit.
Upcoming events:
o October 1st- Read-a-thon begins
o October 8th- Guest speaker via Zoom
o October 20th- Picture Day
o Red Ribbon Week is October 26th- October 30th
