About Us
CentralStage is the drama program hub for Central Middle School in West Melbourne, Florida. We provide a full day program of classes including semester long Beginning Drama, a year long Theater 1/Advanced Drama class and year long Theater Production/Stagecraft courses in which students create the sets, costumes, props for our productions. Theater 1 students showcase a yearly children's show for local elementary and community groups, while our afterschool program (open to all Central Middle School students) produces two mainstage productions per year.

CentralStage
As one of the few remaining full day Drama programs in Brevard County schools, we offer three different course offerings as well as after-hours activities in which students choose to be as fully immersed in the theatrical experience as they wish. Some students enter to practice growing beyond their basic shyness (making cross curricular connections along the way) while others join to stake their place as stars of the stage, preparing for local high school theater programs where opportunities exist to attend the largest high school theater festival in the world- right here in Florida! Still others seek the chance to use their artistic and craft skills working in the classroom shop and get the opportunity to join our backstage crew, learning to take charge and run the shows from behind the scenes! More information and current production activities can be explored on our program website https://sites.google.com/share.brevardschools.org/centralstage . Feel free to contact our program Director at Bradt.Anita@BrevardSchools.org to find out how your child can discover and showcase their talents.
Basic Theater/Beginning Drama: (Semester) This is a survey course for beginning to intermediate actors. State standards require a minimum of at least one solo, duet, and ensemble acting performance. Topics include stage basics, dealing with stage fright, theater etiquette, and the history of theater performance and communication from the ancient world through Shakespeare.
Theater 1: “Advanced Drama” (Full Year) A second-year course for students interested in more performance opportunities such as an in class show experience. Topics include the history and study of performance genres to include musical theater, historical/classical acting, modern realism, African American and Asian theater history and puppetry, stagecraft participation, Stanislavski acting system and psychological script analysis.
Stagecraft: (Full Year) Classes build, paint, sew, and create the scenery, props, and costumes for our stage program. Students certify in backstage and shop safety, learn theater basics, design theory, costume history, and the use of a variety of common tools and techniques for producing shows as well as maintenance of our program stock. Activities vary yearly by production needs, and the course may be taken multiple years as students progress from beginners to leadership roles and responsibilities. Students in this class claim first dibs on backstage show production positions such as crew, spotlight, lights, and sound. (Signed safety contract required for participation).
