Students at Shallowater High School are encouraged to begin taking the ACT and/or SAT test no later than their Junior year. While the two tests differ in format, both are widely accepted by colleges and universities everywhere. TSI is often administered during students' freshman/sophomore years in order to determine their readiness and eligibility to enroll in dual credit coursework.
In Shallowater ISD, PSAT 8, PSAT 9 (Freshmen), PSAT (Sophomores), PSAT-NMSQT (for qualifying Juniors), and SAT (Seniors) are all offered on-site as part of an articulated program. For more information on testing opportunities, please contact campus counselors.
The ACT® test is the nation’s most popular college entrance exam and is accepted and valued by all universities and colleges in the United States. The ACT is based on what students learn in high school and provides personalized information about their academic strengths for education and career planning purposes. The SAT® test is an entrance exam that is used by most colleges and universities to make admissions decisions. The purpose of the SAT is to measure a high school student's readiness for college, and to provide higher education institutions with one common data point that can be used to compare all applicants. The TSI assessment is designed to help colleges/universities determine if you are ready for college-level coursework in the general areas of reading, writing, and math and is required of all incoming college students in Texas (unless you meet one of the exemptions). Based on how you perform, you may either be enrolled in a college-level course that matches your skill level or be placed in the appropriate developmental course or intervention to prepare you for college-level coursework in the future.
