Samantha Bias is a Cleveland, Ohio-based experimental contemporary artist who emphasizes her work largely on nature and natural objects. Focusing on alternative process, Bias pushes the concept of what photography is and can be. Her work with ephemeral objects that can easily be overlooked or discarded becomes a source of inspiration to Bias. Her muses are depictions of figurative beings and digitally altered photo collage rendering black and white images on objects such as leaves to fuse the natural world with her own imaginative vision.
Advocating for sustainable ways of creating Bias’s art is fully biodegradable and compostable. While the artwork she creates is made to last a lifetime, it does not have a lasting effect on our most precious resources. That being said her artwork is made to be enjoyed and cherished in the moment and thus not taken for granted. This way of portraying her artwork has granted her recognition on an international level.
Bias is an award-winning artist and two-time recipient of the National Arts Program 1st place winner in the Professional Category. She has taken home Best of Show in several major galleries locally and nationally. Bias also has a permanent piece hanging in PhotoMuse, a photography museum in Kerala, India.
