Currently in reading groups we are doing novel studies. Your child is reading one of three books in the classroom. We are looking closely at each book and answering comprehension questions. We have discussions revolving around those discussion questions. I am reminding students that when answering those questions they should be using their book as a resource to answer the questions.
In reading groups we are talking about Context Clues. There are five different ways to find what a word means in a sentence or passage:
Your child should be reading at least 20 minutes every night. Please remember to return reading logs every Friday.
We have just finished talking about main idea, supporting details, and theme in reading groups. To help your child with these reading strategies you can ask them about main idea, supporting details and theme in the books that they are reading at home.
