So your puzzle is all ready to be cut on the Epilog Fusion Pro! There are only a few more settings to adjusted in Inkscape and then you can send your file to the Epilog to be cut or rastered.
On the right half of the Inkscape app you will see a series of boxes that control the various properties of your image in Inkscape. In particular we are looking to change a few properties in the Fill and Stroke panel. These are illustrated below:
Step 1
After selecting your image (you will see a dotted line appear around it), click on the Fill tab and select No Paint. This makes sure you don't fill your object and leaves the outline ready for cutting.
Step 2
With your object still selected click on the Stroke Paint tab and select Flat color. Since you will be cutting along the lines this provides a solid line and not a gradient, which would etch on the material and not cut it.
Step 3
Finally, click on the Stroke style tab and change the width to .001 inches (mm is the default). This let's the laser know you want to do a vector cut and not a raster image.
Step 4
Now it's time to send your image to the Laser Cutter! Save your file as an .svg file (Inkscape's default file format) and put it on a USB drive. There is a dedicated computer attached to the Epilog Fusion Pro you can use with your USB drive or send your file to fablab@shadysideacademy.org.
Once the file is open in Inkscape on the computer attached to the Epilog Fusion Pro go ahead and click on File -> Print and choose the Epilog Engraver as your printer.
Step 5
Once the Epilog Dashboard software loads up, position your image over the media you want to use. The camera will turn on so you can see where your design is in relation to the material.
Click on the little folder on the top right illustrated in the figure to the left. This allows you to select the material you are vector cutting or raster imaging into.
Step 6
Once you have selected and imported the appropriate material click on Print. Make sure the Epilog Fusion Pro is closed and that the BOFA filter is on so any fumes are extracted safely.
