PARENT'S INFORMATION EVENING

The parents information evening will take place on Tuesday 29th March at 5pm in the Drama Hall.

REGISTER/POCKET MONEY GROUPS

In order to make it easier for us all we have divided you in to smaller groups and assigned you a group leader. This member of staff will:

- Register you at meeting points

- Issue you your pocket money each morning and your lunch money each lunch time.

Groupings will be decided based on rooming to maintain bubbles as much as possible

FOOD AND DRINK

The food at each venue is plentiful and varied and caters for all tastes and needs. If you notify me of any special dietary requirements then that information will be kept on record. For lunch, you will be given an allowance from the money you have already paid for the trip. We may not all be eating together at lunchtimes so ensure you eat sensibly, taking any necessary precautions if you have any dietary requirements. For evening meals, we will all be eating together.

You will be active all day and will need to eat at all meal times. It will also be hot so you must make sure you drink plenty of liquids, and we don’t mean fizzy drinks but plenty of water.

THE PLANE JOURNEY

The travel time there and back is quite long. The two flights last 13 hours going there and coming back, so make sure you have bought some entertainment for the flights. Food can be taken on to the plane but can’t be bought into America so do not bring too much as meals are also provided by the airline. Also, please do not bring drinks or any other liquids with you in your hand luggage as these will have to be thrown away before going through security at Heathrow.

SPENDING MONEY

I’m sure you will all want to spend lots of money on presents for your friends and family but we suggest you only need a few Dollars a day for snacks and drinks. There will be time in the day at the theme parks and Space Centre if you do want to buy souvenirs. As mentioned before, staff will give you pocket money each day (we will collect all your money at the start of the trip and look after it for you) and you sign for your money each time you make a withdrawal. We do this so that you don’t spend all your money in one go at the beginning of the week or lose all your money. Please therefore make sure that any money you bring is in a sealed envelope with your name clearly printed on the outside.

FIRST AID

Ms Still will be the appointed first aider for the trip. There will also be First Aid provision at the theme parks and Space Centre. If you have any prescribed medicines with you, then you need to give them to Miss Still or Miss Tsappis at the start of the journey. If you need inhalers then we suggest that you carry a spare with you as well. Your medicine must be clearly labelled with your name and the dosage as well as frequency of administration. With regard to paracetamol, supplies of this will be kept and administered by Ms Still as necessary, provided that you have given written permission for this. It is vital that no one takes their own pain killers with them and self-medicates. The exception to this is if your normal painkiller is ibuprofen. We will not be carrying a stock of this so this must be brought with you, labelled as explained above and handed to Ms Still at the start of the trip. We must be fully aware of any medication you take during the trip.

INSURANCE

For this trip insurance is included and provides fully comprehensive cover (if you wish to have a copy of the policy please let me know and I will forward it to you). If you have any pre- existing medical conditions it is wise to notify the insurance company before we go.

EXPECTATIONS

Steyning Grammar School is proud of the high standards of behaviour shown by our students on all previous school trips and we therefore expect these high standards to be maintained by this group. We have become accustomed to receiving compliments of the general good behaviour and manners shown by students of our school. I see no reason for this to change with the group we are taking away this year. Throughout the week, therefore, we expect students to show common sense and good manners at all times! Any behaviour that brings the group into disrepute or puts a student in danger will be dealt with firmly. Remember, we are all there to have fun, including the staff, so please make sure your behaviour makes it an enjoyable a trip for all of us!

VALUABLES

You will take cameras, mobile phones etc at your own risk. Staff cannot be held responsible for any damage or loss of such items. Passports will be kept in a safe and money will be looked after by staff. Although the theme parks have charging stations if you have a power bank it may be worth taking. There is free wifi at the parks so roaming is not necessary but can be added if you require it (bearing in mind that roaming data/calls/texts can be very expensive.
