ICF (International Coaching Federation) defines Executive Coaching as partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential. The process of coaching often unlocks previously untapped sources of imagination, productivity and leadership.
A typical executive coaching engagement can take from three months to six months. Executive Coaching process is akin to "Leadership or Behavioral Coaching" but can cover broader topics other than leadership. Some examples where Executive Coaching could apply are situations where executives are thinking:
I just started in my role and have to figure out whether I have the right team in place.
My department is experiencing a high turnover of employees.
I have to come up with a vision and strategy for our organization and present it to our top leadership team.
My team is not performing the way I need them to.
I am a great technology person but now that they have put me into a management role, I’m not doing as well.
Our change initiative is going too slow.
We have a strategy but it is not getting done.
We just got a new boss and I need to get on his good side, fast.
It's time for me to rethink my career.
I am sleeping less than 4 hours a night because of all the work I have and feel overwhelmed.
I want to get promoted to a Partner in my firm.
The culture in my company has become too reactive and complacent.
We use a four step process in our executive coaching. The first step involves assessing and defining the goal and the outcome of the coaching engagement. Appropriate assessments will be administered. Based on assessments and goals of the coaching engagement, the client chooses one behavior that will have the biggest impact on performance. The second step involves the design of a solution via coaching. We provide the right toolkits that help clients address their pressing challenges and achieve the coaching goals. The third phase consists of holding regular coaching sessions with the client. Each session has a clear outcome that brings value to the client and relates to the overall goals of the engagement. These coaching sessions can be in person or virtual sessions using technology. The fourth step is to review progress (every 3 months) and track results via measurements and make any mid-course adjustments. A final assessment will be administered at the end of the coaching engagement to confirm the results.
