6th Grade Math

  • Our Pacing Guide for our Middle School Curriculum is attached. This is used to stay on track with our curriculum. It is essential to the Middle School Math Department, we follow this pacing guide as close as possible. However, we will make changes based on the needs of our students.
  • Missouri Learning Standards (These are the skills our 6th graders will cover throughout the school year.)
  • 6th Grade Weekly Outlook - this is a link to a Google Document which shows the weekly plan. This is updated biweekly.
  • A few highlights of our year:
    • Play-dough Ratio Lab - students use their knowledge of colors and ratios to create a matching color for certain paint tiles. Students will also create their own color using their own ratio and then name their creation.
    • Skittles Distributive Property - students use skittles as models to discover the distributive property. They will create groups and show their work using Skittles.
    • Christmas Volume/Surface Area - students will build nets of shapes using grid wrapping paper, they will then calculate the volume and area by measuring the dimensions as well as using the appropriate formulas.
