Suncoast Gem & Mineral Society
WHO WE ARE....
People with a mutual interest in gems, minerals, rocks and all of the earth sciences.
WHAT WE DO...
As individuals some of us collect minerals or fossil specimens, others create finished gem stones from rocks and crystals and still others make beautiful jewelry from metals and gems — and many members do all three.
As a club our activities are numerous and varied. Among others we:
Present a yearly show open to the public, where our collections and creations are on display and where merchants in goods pertaining to the hobby may present their wares.
Engage lecturers to appear at almost all our monthly meetings
Organize field trips where groups of collectors can obtain permission to prospect at sites where individuals normally are not allowed.
May award a cash scholarship each year to a deserving student of the earth sciences to assist in his/her education. Also, an honorary award may be given to a citizen of Pinellas County who has made a contribution toward conservation the previous year.
Share our skills and experience with our fellow members. Instructional classes for members which are held in the club house.
Publish a monthly bulletin that contains news of the club’s activities, news of the Southeast Federation and other clubs, articles pertaining to our hobby and many other facts of interest.
Share a high degree of camaraderie.
