Teaching Philosophy

I have a passion for teaching and a love of languages.

I believe in a communicative approach to language learning which focuses on purposeful communication. I see language learning as a vehicle for gaining new knowledge and understandings of different cultures. Therefore, I focus my lessons on real communication in Spanish rather than teaching grammar out of context. My classes are student-focused and I engage my learners in authentic language learning tasks that immerse them in the language and culture. I view every student as an individual and I strive to meet each student’s needs as I push them to meet my expectations. I highly value teacher collaboration and I appreciate working with my colleagues. I am open to new ideas and I enjoy integrating technology into my lessons. I find I am constantly learning and evolving my teaching practice, as well as expanding my own language learning.
