The California Dance Standards are focused around four Artistic Processes:
✦ CREATE ✦ PERFORM ✦ RESPOND ✦ CONNECT ✦
(in Visual Art, "Perform" is changed to "Present")
This means that students will not only get a chance to learn some choreographed dances, but they will have many opportunities to explore the following:
learning body awareness and control to express themselves in different ways
creating their own movement phrases with guidance
experimenting with changing dynamics of movement (levels, force, pathways, size, speed, etc.)
observing dances - learning how to observe and share their reactions
performing dances for others
watching, learning, and talking about why and how people dance all over the world (and how to learn and do these dances respectfully)
connecting dance and creative movement to their family's cultures, world cultures, and historical eras.
