About Us

Founded as one of the original arts programs in 1982, the Dance Department at Ruth Asawa School of the Arts is a pre-professional training program that prepares students for any collegiate dance program or professional dance career.

We focus our technical study in the areas of ballet, contemporary ballet, modern, contemporary, and jazz, with master classes and workshops in additional styles such as hip hop, bellydance, tap, and dancehall. Our program has an emphasis on dance choreography, composition, and teaching, where we combine our technical knowledge and abilities with the artistic and creative identities of our students. Our coursework includes research and written assignments in the areas of anatomy, dance history, and dance analysis which are skills needed to succeed in rigorous collegiate programs.

If you are interested in applying to the Dance Department, please check out the admissions information on our main school website.
