PRESIDENT'S MISSION:
Under President Justin's Mission, our goal is to improve student life, more inclusive, more fun, and build a strong foundation for the student government so continuing the following years at MLK Student Government, they can continue what this administration has built and continue making the school better! Not only that, but the goal of our President is to also follow the plan of the school and their vision and goals, and to follow SFUSD's core values and guidance to make sure our school is better and improving every single day. The president understands that decisions he make will affect the schools so by following those values, it will improve the school more!
STUDENT BODY or STUDENT GOV'S MISSION:
MLK student government is also known as SGOV at MLK. The student government is a student or youth voice for the school. Our student government is dedicated to fostering an inclusive environment where every single student, no matter who they are, what their background is, every student's voice matters! Our mission and fundamental goal is to represent all of you (students) and create changes and positive impacts on the school, whether it is to enhance the student education environment or to increase budget funding for certain areas. We act as a group of students who fight for change in our school.
We are not just a voice for all the students here at MLK, we are a team that also advocates for budget changes and making sure that our school's budget is following the school's values and guidance to make more positive changes towards the school's goals. That specific team the student gov is in is called The School Site Council. (SSC info is on another page -> Click to redirect to that page)
WHAT ARE WE WORKING ON or WHAT WE HAVE ACCOMPLISHED?
ποΈ Upcoming Carnival on May 30th
Our student government wanted to create a carnival before graduation so we could make sure our current 8th graders (Class of 2025) could have a memorable time before they transition to high school. They have worked very hard, and we wanted to make sure they have a memorable year and to remember MLK was their school, and it was fun and awesome! We plan to foster a more fun and inclusive environment!
Β β
SFUSD's First Middle School Student Government Website
President Justin Chen signed an executive action and order and submitted approval for a student government website. We had made a prototype before, but not part of SFUSD., This website was brought to you because Justin wanted to make sure we have a platform so you students know what the student government is working on! We are still improving this site every single day! Hoping that this site is going to be the main platform of SGOV for next following year!
π AAPI Celebration Night Planning
MLK Middle School had its first-ever AAPI celebration, and President Justin Chen, 7th Grade Vice President Edmond Wu, and Secretary Lilah Lee helped plan an event with the AAPI community to celebrate the month of AAPI Heritage Month, which is in May. This matches SGOV's and the President's Mission to bring a more inclusive and fun environment to the school!
πΈ Voted & Secured Funding For The School or Campus
The President and the student government have voted and made sure the school site council was able to secure budgets for next school year and to make sure the funding was spent correctly towards specific departments, and make sure they are aligned with the goals of the school currently.
π« Fundraising for Student Gov (Raffle)
The student government team did a Christmas candygram and a New Year's raffle and we did some really good prizes for the students, and the prizes are a $50 Target gift card, a $25 Subway gift card, and 15 kingbling.
