These units are an offering of support. Curriculum is never one-size-fits-all. Therefore, all of the lessons, activities, slides and handouts can and should be adapted for your students, your classroom context, and your style of teaching.

In this unit, students analyze the poetry of Gary Soto, Warsan Shire and others for elements of poetry that they then use to inform their own poetry writing.

 This unit features a short novel written in straightforward, accessible English using collaborative reading structures to get students talking about issues of homelessness and community. Students trace the themes of Resilience in the Face of Adversity, Personal Ingenuity and The Drive to Succeed as they work toward the final creative products.

In this unit, students read Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes, tracing the themes of Community and Courage while determining how both courage and community are represented in their own lives.
