Q: What is my Student ID#?
A: Log in to StudentVUE and click on the Student Info/Waitlist tab on the left side. Your Student ID# will be displayed in the middle of the page.

Q: When does the school day begin and end?

Q: How do I reach my counselor?
A: You can visit your counselor in Room 117 during lunch period or email them to schedule an appointment.
Parents: We kindly ask that you email your child’s counselor in advance to set up an appointment. Counselors are often meeting with students throughout the day, and walk-ins may interrupt scheduled sessions. Thank you for your understanding!
Q: How do I contact my teachers?
A: Students: You can email your teachers through StudentVue.
Parents: You can email your child's teachers through ParentVue. If you don’t have an account yet, sign up here.
Q: How do I check my grades and attendance?
A: Students: Log in to StudentVue to view your grades and attendance.
Parents: Use ParentVue. If you don’t have an account yet, sign up here.
Q: I am struggling in my class. What should I do?
A: Reach out to your teacher as soon as possible. You can check in with them after class, during advisory, lunch, or via email. If you do not receive a response within one week, please contact your counselor for support. Please note that teachers may not respond outside of school hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and school breaks. You’re also welcome to visit the library (Room 233) after school for tutoring support. Tutoring is available daily until 6pm, and until 5pm on Wednesdays.
Q: I’ve been trying to contact my child’s teacher but haven’t received a response. What should I do?
A: If you haven’t heard back from your child’s teacher within a week, please reach out to your child’s counselor for support. Please note that teachers may not respond outside of school hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and school breaks.
Q: When will I receive my schedule for the new school year?
A: You can view your schedule on StudentVue starting the day before the first day of school.
Q: What classes do freshmen take?
A: Freshmen are required to take core subjects, including English, Math, Biology, a Foreign Language, Ethnic Studies, Physical Education, and one elective (such as Computer Science or Art).
Q: Can freshmen take AP classes?
A: No, AP classes are not available to 9th grade students, with the exception of AP Language courses. Students may begin taking AP courses starting in 10th grade.
Q: How many AP or Honor classes can students take?
A: Sophomores may take one AP and one Honors class. Juniors and Seniors may take up to three AP and/or Honors classes in total per year. Please note that even if students request three AP and/or Honors classes, placement is not guaranteed due to limited space.
Q: How much homework and studying is expected for AP and Honors classes?
A: Students should expect at least two hours of homework and studying per night.
Q: Are there tutoring services at GWHS?
A: Yes. Please drop by the library (Room 233) after school for tutoring support.
Q: What is the attendance policy, and how do I report an absence?
A: Attendance is taken daily in all classes, including advisory. To report an absence, click here. Please allow up to five days for the status to update from 'A' (Absent) to 'E' (Excused).
Important: Be sure to email your teacher to let them know you'll be out. Ask if there are any assignments to complete or materials to review while you're away.
If you’d like to discuss the absence, contact your child’s counselor.
Q: I have a medical appointment during school hours. Can I leave campus on my own?
A: No. To leave campus, you must submit a note to the Counseling Office (Room 117).
Ms. Lai or Ms. Szeto will issue a Permit to Leave (PTL). The note must include:
Student’s full name, grade, and advisory number
Date(s) and reason for leaving campus
Signature and phone number of a parent/guardian or doctor
PTLs can be requested: Before school, during advisory, and during lunch.

Q: How do I get a locker?
A: Your advisory teacher will assign you a hallway locker. If you're enrolled in a Physical Education class, your PE instructor will assign you a PE locker. Please bring your own lock for both lockers.
Q: Where do I purchase a PE uniform?
A: Each new student receives one free uniform. Additional uniforms can be purchased from your PE teacher.
Q: Who should I contact for mental health support?
A: Visit the Wellness Center (Room 121) during lunch period, or complete this form to request a meeting with a member of the wellness staff.
Q: What services are available at the Wellness Center?
A: Students have access to a wide range of services, including:
Mental health and harm reduction counseling
Nurse and case management support
Support and empowerment groups
Referrals to outside agencies
All wellness services are confidential, unless there are safety concerns, and available to all students.
Q: What after-school activities are offered?
A: GWHS offers a wide range of student clubs and sports throughout the school year, including swimming, basketball, track, cheer, flag football, football, tennis, softball, badminton, soccer, and more. For information about clubs, please contact Mr. Dupree at thomasn@sfusd.edu. For information about sports teams, please contact Ms. Hom at homj@sfusd.edu. The Richmond Neighborhood Center also provides a variety of after-school programs. You can visit them in Bungalow T4 to learn more.
Q: What should I do if I lose my photo ID?
