DMD Certificates
After 2 or 3 years of DMD Courses (11th-12th OR 10th-12th ), students are eligible to earn two types of DMD Completion Certificates upon graduation:
The DMD Academy Certificate of Completion-(by completing the 2/3 years of the program’s courses & all graduation requirements)
The DMD Academy Advanced Certificate- (by completing the above PLUS completing EXTRA activities such as: CCSF courses, internships, multi-media after school programs, etc.
AME Digital Media 1 (10th grade)
This is the introductory course to Lincoln’s 3-year Digital Media Design (DMD) Academy Program, which is part of SFUSD’s Career Technical Education (CTE) Program and is a California Arts, Media, & Entertainment (AME) Industry Sector course. An introduction to computer use, operating systems, video production and graphic design will be covered. Students who are part of an academy at Abraham Lincoln are required to maintain a minimum G.P.A. of 2.0 to remain and participate in the academy.
Course Topics Covered:
Effectively using Internet search methods and evaluating sources of information
Effective email (Gmail) use for the school and work setting
Learning to use free on-line office/productivity products (i.e.: Google Drive, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Calendar, and Google Forms)
Learning to the intermediate level Adobe Photoshop: understanding the user interface, tools and panels, manipulating/editing digital images, creating collages, and using Photoshop for graphic design projects
Exploring skills, interests, and work importance for various careers related to the technology/multimedia fields
Introduction to video production & editing
Learn the Principles of Art
Project based hands-on learning
Make friends in a small learning community
Learn how to use the Apple OS X effectively with proper digital file handling
Have guest speakers about various design, multi-media, & tech related careers throughout the year
Participate in 10th Grade spring field trip
AME Digital Media 2 (11th grade)
This course is part of Lincoln’s Digital Media Design (DMD) Academy, which is part of SFUSD’s CTE Program and is a California Arts, Media, & Entertainment (AME) Industry Sector course. This year-long course provides a hands-on introduction to the technical and creative skills of a professional graphic designer through the use of industry standard graphic design principles and the industry standard software, Adobe Illustrator. This course covers the manipulation of graphic form to convey meaning, strategies for idea generation and the development of unique concepts, and the designer's role as visual storyteller. First, students learn the distinguishing features and elements of communicating visually through graphic design. Next, they gain technical skills in Adobe Illustrator to equip them for doing authentic graphic design work. From there, students master the basic principles of graphic design and then delve into elements of graphic design such as vector design creation, color, typography, and images by working on various projects simulating the work done within the creative arts industry. This course fulfills U.C. A-G course requirements. Students who are part of an academy at Lincoln are required to maintain a minimum G.P.A. of 2.0 to remain and participate in the academy.
Student Learning Outcomes
Explore various careers related to graphic design and dive in deep into ones of personal interest
Learn about and create your own effective/professional resume, cover letter, and job application, and learn proper interview techniques and personal habits for the professional workplace setting in order to secure an internship experience
Learning effective design principles such as unity, rhythm, contrast, balance, scale/proportion, figure/ground/gestalt, time & motion in order to incorporate them into various projects throughout the year
Understand & use effectively the elements of graphic design (i.e.: point, line, shape, texture, depth, value, & color) in various projects throughout the year
Understanding image size and resolution for different project needs
Understanding Adobe Illustrator features & use, including: it’s interface, using colors/fills/blends, vector drawing, graphic elements, and layers/masks
Creating various graphics in Adobe Illustrator by using drawing and shape tools, typography, scanned images, 3D graphics, and transformation tools
Learn how to design 3D objects to print your ideas with our class’ MakerBot 3D Printer
Have guest speakers about various design, multi-media, & tech related careers throughout the year
Participate in spring 11th grade field trip
AME Digital Media 3 - Honors (12th grade)
This is the final course in Lincoln’s Digital Media Design (DMD) Academy, which is part of SFUSD’s CTE Program and is a California Arts, Media, & Entertainment (AME) Industry Sector course. Students will learn best practices and concepts for working with digital graphics, digital video, digital audio production, and digital animation through the creation of various projects. This course guides students through all phases of multimedia/digital video/audio production, from planning, executing/filming/recording, to editing digital footage using various software products. Career opportunities in multi-media will also be explored throughout the year. This course fulfills U.C. A-G course requirements and follows California’s Career Technical Education (CTE) Standards. Students who are part of an academy at Lincoln are required to maintain a minimum G.P.A. of 2.0 to remain and participate in the academy.
Student Learning Outcomes
Conduct career exploration related to fields in multimedia (i.e.: video, web, audio, graphic design, and animation) and dive deep into ones of personal interest to the student
Learn how to properly use various digital recording devices (for still images, video, and audio recording) and associated industry standard equipment to create multimedia projects
Learn about Pre-production techniques for video/audio, including: researching content, script/screenplay writing, storyboarding, pitching, & working in a production team
Learn about the video production process, including: digital video camera techniques, interview techniques, lighting techniques, and audio lab techniques
Understanding organizing and design principles for video and animation production
Understanding the 12 principles of animation and applying them to digital animation projects
Understanding how to create professional audio podcasts, from planning stages, to production, to exporting
Learning about proper visual and audio techniques for enhancing video
Understanding the Adobe Premiere Pro interface elements and their functions
Understanding and practicing how to import media assets, organize/manage video clips, trimming clips, managing sound, adding text and shapes, and adding effects/transitions
Senior Year course is aligned with CCSF’s Design Program & therefore earns a bump in students’ GPA points on transcript & acts as an AP Class taken at Lincoln
Take FREE City College of San Francisco (CCSF) (courses with FREE textbooks) related to digital media & of topics of interest to students & get a bump in your GPA
Have class time & presentations on searching/deciding on possible college majors, best colleges to attend for you, financial aid & scholarships
Have guest speakers about various design, multi-media, & tech related careers
Spring field trip to KQED TV/Radio Station for tour, workshops, & audio recording
Students work on a variety of different projects using the same software.
Equipment
Students have access to lots of industry standard equipment to create with, such as 20-Inch iMacs (2022) with Adobe Creative Cloud (CC), drawing tablets, video & still cameras, DSLR’s, microphones, 3D Printers, an iPad teleprompter, tripods, etc.
DMD Funding
Much of DMD’s equipment, such as iMacs, video & still cameras, drawing pads, Adobe Creative Cloud, etc. is funded through CA State Grants through SFUSD’s Career Technical Education (CTE) Dept.
Some funding comes from Abraham Lincoln’s site budget and from Lincoln PTSA Grants
Special events such as end of year celebrations and graduation celebrations are funded through DMD fundraising events
