Welcome Deer Creek 6th Graders!
Dear 6th Grade Parents and Students,
Welcome to the 2024-25 school year at Deer Creek Intermediate School. We are looking forward to learning and connecting with your children, and we hope that this will be one of their most positive and memorable years in school. We have been fortunate to be part of the construction of beautiful updates here at DC. Thank you for your support.
In the first days back the 6th grade team will be developing classroom norms and values so that we can treat each other with kindness and respect on a daily basis. These norms have been created school-wide and center on PBIS and Social Emotional Learning.
Be Responsible
Be Respectful
Be Safe
Be Kind
The core elements of the SEL Advisory curriculum include:
RESPECT, CARING, INCLUSIVENESS, INTEGRITY, RESPONSIBILITY, and COURAGE. Our Charger Community asks each learner to be respectful, be responsible, be safe, and be kind each day, both in and outside of school.
In ELA classes, students will be using Amplify ELA. The Amplify ELA curriculum has several core units we will discover during the school year.
6A Dahl and Narrative
6B Mysteries and Investigations
6C The Chocolate Collection
6D The Greeks
6F Summer of the Mariposas (novel & author study)
6G The Titanic Collection
In addition to the core content, students will participate in writing and grammar study.
*6H Beginning Story Writing
*Grammar
Each unit is primarily electronic and assignments are submitted directly in the program; then the scores are added to Powerschool daily. In 6th grade the students are assessed on one or more key items per day. Most Amplify class work is done in class, but assignments and projects will need independent study time and your attention and support at home; these items can be found in the agenda. Students are asked to complete the Amplify Solo work and independent reading as home study.
Learning is recorded using both formative and summative assessments. Formative assessments share the growth and practice work, where summative assessments record the successful completion of a learning target using point values (the district grade scale).
We will be using the LMS Google Classroom for your child’s classes.
We will also be completing:
Deer Creek asks all students to be accountable by coming to school on time each day. Students should be completing the agenda and reviewing it each evening with you at home, completing academic work to the best of his/her ability, and checking Powerschool for assignment completion. We also have a HOMEWORK LOG in the ADVISORY section of Google Classroom for your use.
Our goal is for students to set goals, be proud of achievements, challenge themselves to do their best, and value the learning and relationships we develop together each day.
THE SCHOOL POLICY requires students to complete any missing work within one WEEK of the due date. Please adhere to these rules to teach your child responsible learner habits.
Thank you for your time and trust. We look forward to working together! Please know we promise to do our very best each day for your children.
Sincerely,
