A Little About Myself
With over 26 years of teaching experience within our district, I've had the privilege of guiding students from grades 3-8. This journey has equipped me with a deep understanding of student needs and a passion for helping each child reach their full potential. My goal is to create a supportive and engaging learning environment where students can thrive and develop the skills necessary for future success.
Class Overview
Our 7th and 8th grade curriculum explores the rich interplay of world geography and history. By examining how these subjects connect, students gain a deep understanding of global cultures, environments, and historical events. This integrated approach fosters informed and engaged global citizens. In this class we utilize the district adopted text as well as a variety of primary and secondary sources to explore our world and its history.
Class Expectations
Treat everyone in the classroom with respect, including the teacher, classmates, and the learning environment. This includes listening attentively, using kind language, and valuing diverse perspectives.
Come to class prepared with all necessary materials, including charged chrome books, notebooks, and completed assignments. Being prepared demonstrates a commitment to learning and contributes to a productive classroom environment.
Actively engage in class discussions and activities. Share ideas, ask questions, and contribute to group work. Participation helps deepen understanding and fosters critical thinking.
Complete assignments on time and to the best of your ability. Take ownership of your learning by managing your time effectively and seeking help when needed.
Develop a genuine interest in learning about different cultures, historical events, and social issues. Ask thoughtful questions, explore additional resources, and connect the content to the real world.
Grading:
Student Assessment
Student grades in this course are determined through a combination of formative (30%) and summative assessments (70%).
Formative assessments consist of daily classwork and quizzes designed to monitor student progress and provide timely feedback. These assessments offer opportunities for students to identify strengths and areas for improvement before major evaluations.
Summative assessments are comprehensive evaluations of student learning at the conclusion of each unit. These assessments accurately reflect overall mastery of course content.
To ensure fairness and equity for all students, retakes of summative assessments are generally not offered. However, I understand that unexpected circumstances may arise. If a student believes they qualify for an exception, they should schedule a meeting with me to discuss the situation.
Regular class participation is essential for student success and is reflected in overall course performance.
