Curriculum Overview: English Language Arts is combination of a traditional English Literature course with a writing curriculum that focuses on conventions and content. The classes are aligned with the CCSS set forth a few years ago to create a common curriculum for students around the nation to be able to compete with one another on a level playing field for college placement and the vocations of the future. The course is project driven and the curriculum is uniquely designed for each incoming class.

Course Overview:

7th grade: Seventh Grade Social Studies is New Mexico History from 12,000 B.C. to statehood (1912) and includes History, Geography, Civics, and Economics. NM State standards for Social Studies are followed as well as applicable Common Core.

8th grade:

Eighth Grade Social Studies is United States History from European colonization to Reconstruction after the Civil War. In addition, we will discuss the Economics, Culture, Geography, Civics, Technology and Citizenship relating to the time period studied. We will follow the NM State Standards for Social Studies as well as the common core.


7th grade math and 8th grade algebra

Course Overview: Middle School math follows the NM State Standards for math as well as the common core. 7th grade math covers multiple operations, integers, fractions, decimals, percents, data analysis and display, introduction to geometry, problem solving, proportions, ratio, and transformations. Algebra will explore operations with variables, verbal and algebraic expressions, missing variable equations, distributive property, graphing equations, systems of equations, inequalities, systems of inequalities, variables with exponents, radicals, Pythagorean theorem, and the quadratic equation.

Mr. Jaramillo: 7th grade Life Science/ 8th Grade Physical Science

At Gonzales Community School we have a hands on approach in the Sciences, through inquiry based learning. Students will be using kits provided by The Smithsonian Science Institute, and Mr. Jaramillo to do inquiry based assignments and assessments.
