I thoroughly enjoyed my student teaching experience. Being in the classroom was definitely a hands-on learning experience. In my first semester, I was nervous about not having much experience teaching. However, throughout my three semesters, my CT supported me and taught me so much. I was able to connect with the students in my classroom for both school years. I had previously worked with children and families So I did not find it very difficult to connect with children. It was rewarding to be loved and respected by my students. In my first semester, I struggled with classroom management. I was not sure how I wanted to approach it. Now, I have a philosophy on classroom management. It took the three semesters of student teaching to learn how I wanted to approach classroom management. I was able to observe my CT classroom management skills. However, I had to figure out what was important for me and how I wanted to approach it. Throughout my courses, I learned about best practices and strategies I want to implement in my classroom. As well, in my field experience I learned about other strategies and philosophies that I do not want to implement in my classroom. As well, in the field experience, I learned so much about lesson planning, teaching, and collaborating with other teachers. My student teaching experience was the highlight of my teaching degree.
