SF Day teaching teams are using this conceptual framework to proactively design environments and instruction based on predictable, systematic learner variability. By naming rigorous goals and providing multiple means for representing content, students have access to multiple means for engaging with the curriculum and multiple means for demonstrating their understanding. This flexibility in learning environments --whether virtual or in-person-- means that the UDL framework benefits all learners. As an inspired learning community, we know that this is not a recipe approach. It takes trained, collaborative teams that honor the neuroscience regarding learner variability among the broad range of our learners. The UDL framework offers a lens for the delivery of our excellent curriculum and instruction that demonstrates learner variability as a strength to be leveraged, not a challenge to overcome.
