The GED Option 2 program is an alternate route to give students an opportunity to graduate from Seymour Community High School. Depending on their credit needs, students will work toward completing four GED exams in order to complete the program. Students will have a clear Academic Career Plan upon finishing the program.
Entrance criteria:
Senior in high school
Proficient 9th grade reading level
Ability to complete testing in core areas
Demonstrated commitment to attend at 90% attendance rate or higher
Students are approved through their school’s LST process
Program Components:
Goal is to complete the program within one school year
Classes meet for 15 hours per week
Individualized instruction in school setting
Variety of learning activities and experiences to support transition to full-time employment or other post-secondary options
Competency based, accelerated curriculum
Small group or one-on-one instruction
Coordination with community agencies (EX: Junior Achievement, Job Center, NWTC, WIOA, etc.)
Student Expectations:
Attend school consistently: 90% attendance requirement
Gain experience to support transition into full-time employment or post-secondary options
Demonstrate academic competencies
Sign and abide by GED Option 2 Program Entrance Requirements Contract (completed in orientation by Seymour High School Alternative Education Program Support Coordinator)
Unmet Student Expectations:
Bi-weekly GED meeting led by Seymour High School Alternative Education Program Support Coordinator. The following criteria lends to discussion regarding removal from program. The team (Seymour High School Alternative Education Program Support Coordinator, building administrator, GED Option #2 teacher(s), school counselor) determines placement.
Demonstrated growth in academic ability is lacking
Attendance is below 90%
