Date/Time Session 1: Saturday, 6/1/2024. Check-in at 8:15AM. Class from 8:30AM to 11:30AM. OR
Date/Time Session 2: Saturday, 6/1/2024. Check-in at 1:45PM. Class from 2:00PM to 5:00PM.
DESCRIPTION
The oceans cover more than 70 percent of our planet and are the dominant feature of Earth. Wherever you live, the oceans influence the weather, the soil, the air, and the geography of your community. To study the oceans is to study Earth itself.
Notes for Success:
Scouts should get a copy of the latest printing of the Merit Badge Book and read it before the class.
Consider utilizing the WORKSHEET to document your activities and information learned prior to clinic as they must be presented to the counselor in writing / typing.
Do prerequisites before the class.
SUPPLIES Scouts need to bring with them:
Blue card signed on the front by the Scoutmaster.
Notebook & pencil.
Prerequisites
Req 8. Do ONE of the following: (Use a blank sheet of paper for your report or speech outline)
Write a 500-word report on a book about oceanography approved by your counselor.
Visit one of the following: (1) an oceanographic research ship or (2) an oceanographic institute, marine laboratory, or marine aquarium. Write a 500-word report about your visit.
Explain to your troop in a five-minute prepared speech "Why Oceanography Is Important" or describe "Career Opportunities in Oceanography." (Before making your speech, show your speech outline to your counselor for approval.
Follow-up Homework:
Any of the pre-requisites that are not done before class.
Anything not completed in class due to attending late or leaving early.
