First, please meet Karen Eden Herdman:
Master Karen Eden Herdman (Ren) is a multi-ethnic, 7th degree martial arts grandmaster of Tang Soo Do.
Master Ren is most well known in the industry for her inspirational writing. She has appeared in every major martial arts magazine in the country and world, including 8 magazine covers of her own.
A journalist by trade, Karen has worked for NBC and FOX affiliates, with live broadcasts airing on CNN, and reporting for FOX national and Animal Planet.
Her ability to turn everyday occurrences into life lessons started in the martial arts industry over 20 years ago, where she became known as the "Master of Inspiration."
Karen has written 5 books and has been a monthly columnist for over 20 years in major martial arts magazines. Her poem “I Am a Martial Artist” spun off an entire product line which has successfully sold around the world (Copyright Century Martial Arts.) She has since produced 3 product lines including “I Am a Martial Artist” and “They Call Me Master (copyright Century Martial Arts.”)
Her third line “Dojo Darling” / “Dojo Disciple” wear was created to give street kids something to wear when they couldn’t afford a uniform. Many martial artists will buy the very same T-Shirt to provide a uniform for a less fortunate student today.
Karen has also appeared in two major Hollywood productions, including stunt work in Van Damme’s “Sudden Death,” and a feature role in “Sworn to Justice” (w/Cynthia Rothrock, as seen on Showtime.)
In 2000, Master Karen joined The Salvation Army in starting the largest inner-city martial arts program in the world. Instructors volunteer their time at their local Salvation Army corps, and the program is funded by the organization. She started “The Blood and Fire Federation” with current affiliates in the U.S., Africa, Canada and Eastern Europe. She is currently working to bring her inner-city martial arts program onto reservations where Native American youth will be given the opportunity to train as well.
Karen was given a Proclamation by Mayor Michael Hancock of the City and County of Denver in 2012 citing "...through Master Herdman's compassion for others, Denver and the world are a much better place."
In August of 2017, Karen was presented with "The Presidents Lifetime Achievement Award" from the office of the President of the United States, citing "...for her lifelong commitment to building a stronger nation through volunteer service."
Today as a Seminary graduate and ordained Chaplain, you will often find Karen at speaking engagements, book signings and ministering in various communities. Renedenherdman@gmail.com
