Purpose

Seton Hill University prides itself on its pillars of community and service. The university has programs to aid students in creating sustainable, needed community service and outreach projects that significantly impact our community. The newest project students are leading is Seton Hill University (SHU) Sustainable Human Settlements and Resources.

The students of SHUstainable Human Settlements and Resources have been accepted to the Millennium Fellowship. The students are receiving social impact training sponsored by the Millennium Campus Network and the United Nations Academic Impact.

SHUstainable Human Settlements and Resources (SHSR) is a group of students from various disciplines dedicated to researching, educating, and impacting their local community and interested in achieving Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) #11 Sustainable Cities. SHSR functions as a three-part project focusing on research, outreach, and service. The first section consists of students conducting research on the anthropogenic effects of the local city on our environment. Research will focus on water, air, infrastructure, and other human-related environmental issues as well as the political and socio-economic effects of the issue. Once the team conducts research on how cities impact our environment and the subsequent socio-cultural and political effects, they will move into phase two. Phase two consists of educating the local community as well as government officials with the hopes of making long-term changes that will produce more sustainable cities. The education process revolves around spreading information to local community groups, schools, and government. For part three, all students will lead and participate in a variety of related service activities at Seton Hill University.
