Tainan Municipal Baihe District Siancao Experimental Elementary School consists of the main Siancao Campus and the Guanziling Branch Campus. The main campus is located in a small hillside farming village on the way from Baihe to Guanziling. It is part of a remote, open-enrollment district. In the past, it served as a key stopover point between Baihe and Guanziling, but with modern transportation development, the area has gradually declined and now has only a few remaining residents.
The Guanziling Branch Campus lies at the foot of Datong Mountain in the Guanziling area, a well-known hot spring tourist destination. Due to the impact of declining birth rates, the branch currently has only 40 students and is categorized as a mini rural school.
In recent years, Siancao Experimental Elementary School has actively invested in assembling a professional team for the research and development of outdoor education curricula. In 2018, the school received the national Silver Award in the Ministry of Education’s “Flying 100” Outdoor Education Selection for its project, “The Purple Butterfly Party in the Hot Spring Village”, highlighting its role as a model school for outdoor education.
With a long-standing history and the dedicated efforts of successive principals and teaching teams, the school has laid a solid educational foundation and continuously improved its learning environment. A wide variety of student clubs are offered to foster diverse talents. Over the years, the school has won numerous awards in both citywide and national competitions, including taiko drumming, English readers' theater, three-on-three baseball, and mother tongue micro-films. Notably, the Guanziling Branch taiko team was invited to perform at the 2020 Tainan City New Year’s Eve Celebration, becoming a source of pride and honor for the school and local community.
In recent years, the school has actively integrated local resources to develop unique community-based curricula and innovative teaching programs. These include outdoor education focused on Datong Mountain and Jilong Mountain, ecological exploration of fireflies in Nanliao, purple crow butterflies in Hongye Park, and Eurasian tree sparrows around Biyun Temple. Additionally, the school has incorporated local industries such as hot springs, clay-pot chicken, and the Siancao herb into cultural crafts and food and agriculture courses.
The teaching team has also developed audiovisual media courses and established the Siancao School TV Station. Through project-based learning in news inquiry, interviewing, and broadcasting, students cultivate media literacy and access skills. This program was also featured at the Tainan City “First Academy” Curriculum Expo, receiving enthusiastic response and acclaim.
