Sekolah Menengah Sains Seri Puteri was categorised as a High Performing School on 17 February 2011. The school became actively involved in science design and innovation competitions organised by other High Performing Schools and Institutions of Higher Education. In some of these competitions, SM Sains Seri Puteri was awarded a number of gold, silver and bronze awards. This led to the choice of science research as the school's showcase.
Public speaking was selected as the school's ethos as the students were actively involved in competitions that necessitated them presenting and speaking in English. Through various activities of public speaking, the students became more fluent in the language, communicating and voicing their opinions and ideas. This boosted the students’ confidence to speak in front of an audience, managing their thoughts and expressing them critically.
In 2012, Sekolah Menengah Sains Seri Puteri organized its first SESERI i-BOWLS competition, a combination of tenpin bowling, public speaking in English and Malay language successfully. In 2014 the scope of the competition was widened to include Design & Science innovation competition better known as Science Carnival with the help of Management & Science University (MSU). However the number of schools involved in this competition was limited. In 2016, Sekolah Menengah Sains Seri Puteri, Kuala Lumpur once again with Management & Science University (MSU) organized the International Science Carnival MSU-SESERI 2016 competition at a larger scale with more participants. SESERI, in 2018 successfully organized a similar competitions with a new linkage partner, International University of Malaya-Wales (IUMW).
In 2019, Sekolah Menengah Sains Seri Puteri aspires to jointly organize the Science and Innovation and Public Speaking competition with the University of Kuala Lumpur (UNIKL). Network partners from Full Boarding Schools (SBP), High Performance Schools (SBT) and Cluster Schools of Excellence (CSE) in the central zone will be invited to participate in the competitions.
