Every FFA member is encouraged to attend as many monthly meetings as possible, as this is where their voice will be heard and they will learn about what’s going on and how to get involved in activities of the FFA. FFA meetings will be held after school until 3:30 pm. These meetings are utilized to provide students with information of upcoming events, prepare for competitions, as well as plan chapter socials and community service activities. Check the FFA Activity Calendar for the dates and times of this year's meetings.
Career Development Events (CDEs) and Leadership Development Events (LDEs) build on what students learn in agricultural classes and encourage them to put that knowledge into practice. CDEs focus on technical skills, problem-solving, teamwork, and applied knowledge, while LDEs, such as public speaking and parliamentary procedure, help members develop leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Together, these competitions prepare students for careers in agriculture and beyond.
In Pennsylvania, many events can be competed in at the county or area level throughout the school year, including at our annual Ag Skills Days, while all events are available at the state level. Some competitions require teams of three or four members, and a few require placing at the area level before advancing to states. Students who place in the top five at the county level may earn monetary awards. CDEs and LDEs answer the question: “When will I ever use this in the real world?”
