Financial Difficulties
Financial Difficulties
Financial difficulties has been one of the common issues in Region 1 - Ilocos Region, where people faced various economic challenges despite its economic, agricultural and tourism potential.
The key factors affecting the regions are limited local government support, agricultural vulnerabilities, uneven economic growth, infrastructure gaps, and revenue management challenges.
The possible solutions to fix the issue are boost the support of agricultural and tourism, strengthen economic rules and measures, expand and develop finance, and improve financial literacy.
Problems in Relation to Bodong
Bodong (Peace Pact) system was practiced amongst indigenous communities, especially in the Cordillera Region, but it is not as prevalent in Ilocos Region due to its cultural, local and social-economic issues.
Such things as feuds with the Philippine Law, unstable traditional authority, resource conflicts, exploitations, and pressure leading to migration.
We could resolve the issue by balancing both laws and harmonizing them, document and formalizing all agreements, have a council meeting with LGU's (local government units) to improve dialogues and forming a strong relationship, and raise economic support for indigenous communities.
Fear of Kalingas Due to Political Conflicts
Kalinga people are the indigenous group coming from Cordillera Region, which had histories with indigenous groups coming from Ilocos Region, which borders their regions, had some stories and tells that had a mix of respect and fear.
Particularly due to their warrior culture and tribal conflicts, mistrusts and stereotyping, and oppression are some of the reasons of its fears, but in todays modern world, it is mostly focused on political rivalries and defamation, which led to violence and killings.
We could improve the relations between two groups by having a justifiable media presentation, have a peace talk, economic integration and legally recognizing the Bodong Law to decline violence and build a foundation with good governance.
Land Grabbing
Land grabbing is a serious issue enacted by companies or individuals wherein land is controlled through any means (legally or illegally) for intentions that can include resource extraction, commodification, speculation, etc. This, in turn, often harms farmers, agroecology, food sovereignty, and human rights.
In Ilocos, many cases of land grabbing have been affecting major acquisitions of land throughout the region, which led to a dispute between ancestral domains and private and government claims, adding to the mix of government projects, expansion and political manipulation and corruption that led indigenous people have no choice but to relocate or migrate, as well as the loss of livelihood and even resulted to violent conflicts.
Have a peaceful protest about the illegal actions of land grabbing, along with filing a legal case to defend their rights to have their lands back to them, and also to have a call to direct action to prevent them from destroying and claiming their lands, and moreover, Ilocos Region should take a drastic anti-corruption measure and investigate officials involved to this fraudulent acts with cooperation with the local government units (LGU).
Health Problems
Health problem are also one of the challenges and issues Ilocos Region have faced, on which they faced several public health challenges despites showing improvements in healthcare services, especially in the rural and indigenous communities.
There are cases of NCD's (Non-Communicable Diseases), infectious disease, mental heath issues, maternal and child health issue and environmental health issues with addition to a limited access of hospitals nearby in some cities in Ilocos Region.
While the government and community has implemented some response and solution to health problems, it would be much better if they strengthen the RHU (Rural Health Unit), Health education programs, as well as mental health integration, with furthermore implication of access to clean water and better sanitation projects.

Tribal wars
As previously stated, Ilocos Region has some historic meetings with Cordillera Regions in indigenous communities, which led to a mix of emotions, some respected each other's beliefs and strengths, and some despised each other, which led to killings and violence due to the history of tribal wars in the past.
Even though in todays era, where laws and rules published to stop conflicts, it'll still occur, as people would not hesitate to put actions in violence due to land disputes, cultural roots, and with the modern mix of modern influences and political feuds that led to false claims and armed conflicts and result to loss of lives and distrust.
We could help avoid any more conflicts by improving the Bodong Law and implying a more strengthen security and bond for the indiegnous people, as well as giving people right justice, especially to the tribal groups that have been left out, as well as the government's support to have extra efforts to avoid these conflicts at all cost.
Differences in Beliefs and Religion
Ilocos Region is predominantly a Roman Catholic, but it also has a mix of other religions, which creates a difference on beliefs and religions that may result in a conflict.
The challenges in its difference is that it could result to a religious conflict or secretarianism, decline in old beliefs and folk practices, religious festival becoming more commercialized, and the loss of spiritual values due to modernization.
We could solve this challenge by a mix of preservation efforts, along with the promoting harmonious faith and dialogue, balancing faith and modernization as well as proper education to religion and beliefs, including the revitalization of the old, folk traditional beliefs and teachings.
