My name is Matthew Conry. I am senior at Junipero Serra High School. Part of being a good student and fellow brother to my Padre classmates includes doing my part in maintaining a safe and healthy environment. With the recent nation-wide spread of the popularity of e-cigarettes, I have become concerned for the health of some of my close friends.
My name is Kenneth Chun, and I am a senior at Junipero Serra High School. As a high school student, I am familiar with the effects that vaping has on my peers. By taking up this project, I strive to create a school environment where student health and safety is the number one priority.
Pictured above is Rachel, an 18 year old nicotine addict. At such a young age, these teens are becoming dependent upon a chemical.
As high school students, both of us have at one point witnessed a fellow student in the restroom or at a party taking hits off of their Juul or other nicotine device. Although illegal, it is incredibly easy for anybody to gain access to such a device. The popularity of vaping among young adults has grown to an unhealthy level, and affects hundreds of thousands of high school students -- some of which are our close friends.
A close friend from middle school has recently been admitted to a rehabilitation program in order to combat his nicotine addiction. Once the smartest kid in his class, peer pressure got to him. The availability of such dangerous and addictive products has caused his life to spiral out of control.
We would hate to see any other friends or ourselves fall into such a situation. That's why our social justice project is aimed at preventing not just the distribution but also discouraging the usage of teenager vaping.
