Abstraction

Abstract Safari

For this assignment, we were given very abstract prompts and followed those and took photos that were similar to those abstract black and white shaped fonts. The purpose of this assignment was to being talking about abstraction. The process of doing this assignment involved walking around the house looking for common patterns that were the prompts. What I found challenging about this assignment was getting the angles right. By completing this assignment, I learned abstraction can be almost anything as long as you have the write idea of how to make something not look like what it is. One of my most successful photos from this assignment is the picture of the piano key because it almost identically represents the prompt in both shape and color and is abstract.

Golden Reflection

Tilted Tower

For this assignment, we researched a specific photographer and presented about their specific form of photography. The purpose of this assignment was to become more knowledgeable about techniques in photography and also learn about popular photographers. The process of doing this assignment involved using techniques used by the photographer we picked out and trying to mimic their style but with our own pizzaz. What I enjoyed most about making this assignment was having the experience of using techniques and having an idea for what I want to photograph. By completing this assignment, I learned a lot about numerous techniques and about my photographer, Andrew Prokos. Now I am wondering what other unique techniques is there that we can learn about?

Diptych/Triptych Assignment

In this assignment we learned about a method of photography called a Triptych which is where you take three photos, usually that have similarity to one another, and you pair them together in an artistic way. I think the purpose of this assignment as to teach us more about composition and how to make things look more visually appealing. I really enjoyed this assignment because I got to play a lot with the composition of the three images and really create things that wouldn't be there in a differentarrangement

Photogram Assignment

For this assignment, we did a photogram assignment. Essentially, we took items of our choosing and placed them on a piece of photo-sensitive paper while we were in the dark. Then we flashed a light on them for not even three seconds and then developed them. What we came out with was essentially a negative of the items imprinted on the paper (left). Afterward, we went to Adobe Lightroom and exercised our skills of editing to create a positive image of the photogram (right). Then we were challenged to create an artistic edit of the image (middle). For mine, I messed around with multiple settings and attempted to create a sharper image of the photogram without making it too grainy. I did this using grain and contrast filters, among others. With this assignment, we learned how photo-negative paper worked and got to experiment with it and also used it as an opportunity to practice our editing skills.
