Miss Johnson's Online classroom

Welcome! Hi Melany, Weston, Katie, Grayson, Brayden, Piper, Kaleb, Eliza, Rafael, Sadie, Dario, Abraham, Evelyn, Forrest, and Faith!!!

I love to ride dirt bikes. My family and I usually go riding in the desert.

I can usually always be found with a book I am currently reading somewhere near me because I love to read all the time.

I have a furbaby (dog) named Tramp. He also has about 5 nicknames that he gets called (Trampy, Trampy Doo, Stinky, Doodle, and Doo). He reminds me of Scooby Doo which is where his nickname Doo comes from.

I am outgoing and love to be outdoors (camping, fishing, hiking, etc.)

I love to teach! I have always known I wanted to teach since I was little. Since high school I have always been involved in a classroom type setting. In high school I did cross-age training and worked in K-1st grade classrooms. After high school I got a job at a Daycare/Preschool and went to college. I kept my close ties and relationships at Sequoia Union because my end goal was to come back and be a teacher here. Which leads me to the present. I am now in my second year of teaching here in 1st grade and am loving teaching this grade level.

Through school, research, and personal experience I have developed the philosophy of a growth mindset. Students need to be taught to have a growth mindset, so they continue to have perseverance in tough/confusing situations. A growth mindset is having the mindset of you do not understand it yet, but that does not mean that you are not able to or never will understand it. I believe that each individual student learns in their own way and at their own pace. With a struggling student we as teachers just have to try to figure out what works for that student. It also includes that students learn through making mistakes and struggling a little bit before reaching their own answers, in their own way.
