Patient Care Technician

In the state of Florida a Patient Care Technician must become a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) to practice as a PCT. The Sentara College PCT program is not a Florida state approved CNA program. Hence, the Sentara PCT program does not meet the Florida educational requirements for CNA licensure/certificate.

The Florida Board of Nursing approves new pre-licensure nursing education programs that meet the application requirements specified in Section 464.019, Florida Statutes. This Section of Florida law also defines the Board’s regulatory authority over established nursing education programs. All concerns or complaints pertaining to approved nursing education programs in Florida should be directed to the Consumer Services Unit of the Department of Health’s Division of Medical Quality Assurance.

Monitor Surveillance

A license is not required to work as a monitor surveillance technician in the state of Florida. There is not a law that requires telemetry/EKG/monitor techs to hold certification, but it is preferred.
