Children's Internet Protection Act Policy

Children’s Internet Protection Act Policy

At Pathfinder Academy, we adhere to a policy for technology usage that is in alignment with the Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA). We do this to help ensure the safety of our clients and staff members.

Access by minors to inappropriate matter on the internet:

The team at Pathfinder Academy closely monitors the use of technological devices on the site and attempts to prevent minors from accessing inappropriate websites. Pathfinder Academy does not allow minors to access internet with explicit sexual content, violence, illegal or school inappropriate information. If a student were to do so, the team will attempt to generate a safety plan for the youth that inhibits their ability to do so in the future. Additionally, several websites (YouTube, Facebook, etc.) are already blocked by our system.

Safety and security of minors when using email, chat rooms, and other forms of direct electronic communications:

Staff members at Pathfinder Academy do their best to monitor the use of email, chat rooms, and electronic communications when students are present at school. While on electronic devices that have access to communication, staff members closely monitor students to ensure that they are engaged in appropriate activities related to lessons. In some cases, staff may allow students to be involved in electronic communication if it is school appropriate or in alignment with a lesson.

Unauthorized access including “hacking” and other unlawful activities by minors online:

Pathfinder Academy does not condone any illegal internet interactions. If a student is found to be abusing an electronic system, the team will call a meeting to discuss appropriate ramifications. The team will closely monitor student technology usage while they are onsite to prevent potential abuses to our online systems.

Unauthorized disclosure, use, dissemination of personal information regarding minors:

Pathfinder Academy strictly forbids the unauthorized disclosure, use, or dissemination of personal information regarding minors. If a staff member were to break this rule, we will follow through with appropriate action as per our various regulatory entities. If a student were to break this rule, the team will follow through with a team meeting to discuss different interventions that will maintain the safety of the student and others.

Measures designed to restrict minors’ access to materials harmful to minors:

Pathfinder Academy has several measures in place to help prevent access to harmful material. Firstly, as previously stated, many websites are blocked on our site, which makes it more difficult for certain information to be accessed. Secondly, devices used on site have additional protections that do not allow for minors to access certain settings or applications. Third, staff will constantly monitor the usage of electronic devices while students are on campus.
