Graduate Research Assistant Position

The Research Assistant will conduct a thesis research on brain signal recognition using data to be collected by a BCI device under the supervision of Dr. Ӧmer M. Soysal. The duration of the RA funding is two years beginning in August 2023. The stipend per year is up to $19,500 ($7000 per Fall/Spring semesters) depending on the qualifications and amount of summer work hours. The applicant must be currently in US (or, at least, obtained approvals and made necessary arrangements to arrive US by August 6th) and willing to seek MS degree in ISAT Data Science.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assisting in
Conducting research, implementing algorithms, data collection, and running experiments
Processing the data for analysis
Preparation of reports for presentation of the outcomes
Training and managing student workers
Preparing tutorials
Maintaining lab equipment
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
At least a BS degree in Computer Science or equivalent
Strong programming skills, particularly in Python, and knowledge of fundamental concepts in software engineering
Strong math skills
Knowledge in machine learning, data mining, database, and signal processing
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Power Point
Good communication and team work skills
Good technical writing skills
Ambition to conduct thesis research in Data Science
Self-learning skills and high dedication for research
Be able to work 40 hours a week during summers
Preference:
Experience in machine learning, data mining, database, and signal processing
Contribution to a peer publication
Knowledge of BCI devices and brain imaging

Particularly, it should discuss how you have gained experience in computer programming, your level of math skills, algorithmic thinking, your ability about self-motivation and self-learning, your ambition and curiosity in learning new concepts, and your interest in participating research related to the BCI systems and brain signal recognition.
The recommendation letters should discuss your personal character in communicating with others and your team-work skills, your ambition and curiosity, and your project experience.
