Well done to the 46 students that have already secured a work placement for next summer, we still have some way to go to get all year 10 students out of school that week, so please use the holidays to have those conversations with friends and family to see if they can help. Find out more here.
I have been offering support sessions during PD on Tuesday’s and Wednesday's when available, so please encourage your child to see me or contact me via email sjb@selbyhigh.co.uk. Mr Birkenshaw.
"Tuesday 20 January, 18:00 - 19:00
This online session is designed to give parents clarity and confidence about the opportunities the British Army offers young people.
Why it matters:
Recent research with over 600 parents and guardians revealed:
Only 27% feel fully confident supporting their child through the application process.
Nearly half (49%) want to attend an online session and receive resources about Army apprenticeships.
What parents will gain:
A real look at life in today’s Army, including roles, training, and qualifications.
Inspiring stories from those with lived experience, plus practical advice and Q&A time.
Insights into how the Army helps young people build confidence, resilience, and valuable life skills - all while earning and learning.
Bonus: Attendees receive a FREE downloadable resource to help support their child’s career choices."
"Did you miss our first episode of Behind the Camo – "Episode 1: What Does the Army Do?"
The event gave an exclusive look into life in the British Army – from personal stories and behind-the-scenes insights to myth-busting moments and a Q&A with serving soldiers.
“You don’t have to be superhuman.”
One of our panellists reminded us that Army life is about growth, not perfection – and that the Army supports you every step of the way.
🎥 Good news – you can still catch up!: Watch On Demand
In Episode 2, we dive into the career opportunities and qualifications available in the Army, showing how you can shape your own path, gain new skills, and even earn a degree while you serve. You’ll hear from soldiers who’ve taken unexpected routes, embraced professional development, and discovered that the Army offers far more flexibility than most people realise.
👉 Want to register for episode two ‘Behind the Camo – What’s in it for you?’ You still can here.
We hope you enjoy the episode and look forward to seeing you at the next event."
